Petra Hielkema (born 1972) is affected by the war in Ukraine – after all, as she points out, her first academic position was an MA in Russian Studies at the University of Leiden. After that the Dutchwoman completed a European Master of Law and Economics in Hamburg and Rotterdam. In 2007 she was hired by the Dutch Central Bank in insurance and corporate pensions division. From 2020 to 2021 she was Director of Insurance Supervision there. She has been Chairperson of EIOPA since September 2021.
